Maitland
Maitland is the doorway to the Hunter Valley wine region. Two hours from Sydney and just a hop to the west of Newcastle, Maitland sits at the south-eastern tip of Australia’s famous Hunter Valley. This world-renowned wine-making region was established over 180 years ago, and produces some of the country’s top labels.
The climate in Maitland has been compared to that of the Mediterranean, from the sun-soaked summers that reach 30 degrees Celsius to the moderate winters that rarely drop below 20 degrees Celsius. Rainfall is at its peak during the mid-year months, though the rest of the year sees only half as much.
