Mayfield

Mayfield is a north-western suburb of Newcastle, which takes its name from Ada May a daughter of the landowner there, John Scholey. Its boundaries are the Hunter River to the north, the Great Northern Railway on the south (Waratah Station), the main railway lines to Newcastle harbour on the east, and open ground in the west.

Mayfield Local Area

Mayfield is one of Newcastle’s older suburbs, which borders the industrial area of the city. The area includes Mayfield and Mayfield West, North and East.

Mayfield offers relatively affordable housing in a convenient inner city location.

The Mayfield area has a number of parks and reserves including Stevenson Park, Dangar Park, and Litchfield Park. A swimming facility and bowling club are located at Dangar Park and a number of ovals in the area provide sporting facilities. Phoenix Sports Club, Mayfield Sports and Rec Club and a ten pin bowling centre are recreational activities available in the suburb.

Mayfield’s shopping area runs along Maitland Road and provides residents with a large supermarket, food outlets and small mixed businesses.
